FAQs
what is a clinical nutritionist and how they differ from a dietitian?
1
Clinical Nutritionists and Dietitians both use nutrition science to support health, but their education, professional scope and approach to practice can differ.
Dietitians complete accredited university-level training in nutrition and dietetics and are qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy. They commonly work across hospitals, community health, private practice, food service and public health, and may work closely with medical teams in the management of diagnosed health conditions.
Clinical Nutritionists are trained in nutritional medicine and typically take an individualised, whole-person approach to care. This involves exploring your diet alongside your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, medications, existing pathology and other relevant factors. Where appropriate, pathology or functional testing may also be used to help inform your nutrition strategy while also working alongside medical teams in the management of diagnosed health conditions.
Both professions can play valuable roles in healthcare. The right practitioner for you depends on your individual needs, health concerns and the type of support you are seeking.

Telehealth allows us to provide the same personalised, comprehensive approach to your nutrition care while making appointments accessible wherever you are in Australia.
What Is functional testing?
3
Functional testing uses specialised laboratory tests to provide a deeper look at specific areas of your health and physiology. Depending on your symptoms and health goals, testing may assess areas such as digestive function, the gut microbiome, nutrient status, hormones or other relevant biomarkers.

What’s the free discovery call?
A Discovery Call is a free, 15-minute conversation designed to help you decide whether House Healix is the right fit for you.
It’s an opportunity to briefly discuss what you’re looking for support with, ask questions about our approach and services, and understand which consultation may be most appropriate for your needs.
The Discovery Call is not a clinical consultation, so personalised nutrition advice, treatment recommendations or assessment of pathology are not provided during this time.
There’s no obligation to book afterwards, it’s simply a chance to connect, ask questions and determine the best next step for you.

What do i need to prepare?
Before your initial consultation, you’ll be asked to complete a comprehensive intake form covering your health history, current symptoms, nutrition, lifestyle and goals. Completing this in advance allows us to spend more of your appointment focusing on what matters most to you.
If you have recent blood test results, pathology reports, specialist reports or a current list of medications and supplements, please have these available for review.

Can you order blood tests?
Clinical Nutritionists cannot directly order Medicare-funded pathology in the same way as a GP. However, we can write a referral for your GP to review your existing pathology and identify tests that may provide useful additional information.
Some pathology and functional tests may also be available privately, depending on the test and your individual circumstances.
